Mr. Curtis Chris Curtis has a Master of Divinity degree from Knox Theological Seminary. Prior to working at Equip, he worked at Miami Shores Baptist Church in adult discipleship. Along with teaching and administrative responsibilities at Equip, he currently works part-time at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church as the Minister to Youth and Families. Mr. Curtis has been married to Jessica for 11 years and they have three children. He has been teaching at Equip since 2009 and teaches Science and Literature classes.
Coming Soon Bec Lingo earned her bachelor’s degree in Education at Nova Southeastern University. She is celebrating 15 years of marriage with her husband, Jon. They have 3 young children, who are all homeschooled, one who is old enough to join Equip this year. Mrs. Lingo loves teaching and considers it a God-given privilege to be able to invest in children’s lives. She taught in Broward County’s public school system prior to having children of her own. In 2013, God began stirring up a desire to homeschool in both Mr. and Mrs. Lingo’s hearts, and in 2014 they excitedly began their homeschool journey. They have been attending Calvary Chapel for 20 years, and the Plantation campus has become their home church. She will be teaching Writing and Science for Equip this year.
Mr. McChesney Don McChesney and his wife Nicole began life anew during the spring of 1998 when they gave their lives to Jesus Christ. They are now in the 25th year of marriage and 15th year of homeschooling five children. Don's experience during a business career of 20 years convinced him that classically educated individuals are rarely met with and desperately needed. He believes that Christian homeschoolers are uniquely positioned to fill that need. He loves to learn and to teach. Don earned his B.A. in Political Science from The American University in 1990 and his M.B.A. from the University of Miami in 1998. He and his family are active in their church. Mr. McChesney teaches math and worldview classes.
Mrs. Pitman Laura Pittman was born and raised in Miami and graduated from Trinity International University with a BA in Elementary Education. She has been married to Matt for 23 years and they have two children, Elizabeth (17 years old) and Jesse (14 years old), who have been homeschooled for the past 12 years. Their family calls Community Christian Church their home, where she serves as a life group leader for 8th grade girls as well as a volunteer in the youth program. She also volunteers for Kidz Camp each summer at their church. Mrs. Pittman served as Youth Minister at Miami Shores Baptist Church from 1983-2001 with a two year break to serve with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. She served as a short term missionary in the evangelism department with her focus being Creative Arts and Evangelism. Even after stepping down from Student Ministry, she continued to lead VBS and chapel for the preschool and elementary students. This is her third year teaching at Equip where she has taught Science and Literature.
Mrs. Sayour Susan Sayour received her B.A. from FIU and is a state-certified teacher. She has been married to George for 11 years. They have 3 young children who are all homeschooled. Mrs. Sayour taught in private school for 3 years and has been teaching with Equip since 2014. She teaches Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 1 Honors. Mrs. Sayour attends St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where she serves in women’s ministry and leads a class on Bible Art Journaling.
Mrs. Shields Jeanne Shields holds a masters degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami. She has worked as a physical therapist for 11 years at Jackson Memorial Hospital then worked as an independent contractor for 10 years after that. She also taught at UM in the therapy labs for 2 years. Mrs. Shields is married to Patrick and they have 4 children. All have been home educated and have attended Equip. Three have graduated and are attending college. The youngest is in the R1 class this year. Mrs. Shields has been with Equip since 2011 and has taught Worldview A & B, Science, and Literature.
Mrs. Simonson Amy Simonson has a bachelor's degree in journalism and is a former journalist from CNN. She married Jerry in 1996 and they have two children who they have been homeschooling for the past 12 years. Both children attend Equip. Mrs. Simonson served several years as children's ministry director where she oversaw and taught many years of VBS. She currently attends Calvary Chapel Plantation. Mrs. Simonson began teaching with Equip in 2015 and is currently teaching, U.S. History, Latin I, and Writing/Grammar.
Mrs. Slautterback Jodi Slautterback has been married to Mike for 26 years and is the mother of 3 children who she has been homeschooling since 1999. Josh, now a graduate from FIU, Lauren, a graduate of Equip and now attending Calvary Chapel Bible College in Hungary, and Luke, a current student of Equip. Mrs. Slautterback has been attending Calvary Chapel Plantation for 9 years where she is involved in middle school AWANA and Bible quizzing. She began teaching at Equip in 2016 and teaches Literature for both Rhetoric 3 and Rhetoric 4.
Mrs. Taylor Carol Taylor earned her B.A. at Illinois State University with a major in English and a minor in music. She then went on to earn her M.A. at The University of Illinois in English. She has been married to Dwight for 37 years. They have four adult children who were all homeschooled and who now have all completed college or seminary. Along with these children they are now proud grandparents to one adorable granddaughter named Grace. Mrs. Taylor has taught writing at University of Illinois, Middle and High school English at Boca Raton Christian School, writing and literature for Miami Christian College and H.O.M.E. homeschool coop. She has taught at Equip since 2010 and currently teaches writing, literature, Latin, and World History.
